TL : DR Warning; if you got 10 mins break, grab a cuppa cha or java, stick some music on and have a read!
Y'know.. I watch a lot of Comicstorian and Comics Explained on YT, while working on guitars, fixing paint chips and the like can take ages, and I find this passes the time quickly.
I had seen and been a part of a debate a few months ago, on the morality of Star Sapphires and Indigo Tribe*, since then I have had many more thoughts, realizations, and gained more information, with much thanks to the above, Comicstorian and Comics Explained.
Q: Could the Villain faction of DCUO be members of The Indigo Tribe?
Prose; Yes:
The original morality of an Indigo Tribe member is kept by a majority of them, so once relieved of their rings, they are innately villains. They also act in the best interest in those they are allied to, so if in a group of other villains they could co-operate to remove a stronger threat, e.g. Brainiac.
The ring, would seek out the most compassionless individuals, and since our rings in DCUO are reservists rings, it is not only possible but likely that some rings would seek out the villain faction of our world.
Prose; No:
The ring itself is parasitic, and so whatever morality they had before bearing the ring is null and void. Their actions correspond to the wishes of the ring not the morality of the person wearing the ring. Indigo-1 even wishing the compassion of the ring to be returned so making her 'heroic'.
The ability to change the individual's morality, through not enforcement, but a natural wish from the original person, indicates that the bearer can change morality which we in DCUO cannot.
Prose; both:
The thought that Indigo Tribe members are playing in villain faction, just to give them aid, makes a lot of sense, being former villains themselves, returning to be compassionate to current villains. Also this would be a way for them to recruit new members. Iroque has now crossed over to Heroic, so we can also have a heroic faction Indigo Tribe members being former villains whom have given up their villainous ways.
The above invites both factions to be Indigo Tribe members, the reservist rings, searched out villains and some converted to being heroic, and some did not, alines itself with the situation we have in the comics.
The Devs enforce the idea of Indigo Tribe neutrality, during Oa under Siege, and so the villain faction has already been given aid during the blackest night era, whether or not this is 'extreme circumstance' is unclear.
Q: Could the Villain faction of DCUO be members of The Star Sapphires?
Prose; Yes:
It is little known that the Entity of the Star Sapphires 'The Predator' is actually a villain, who lures women* with the parasitic Star Sapphire ring to joining the corps, and even encases them in crystal to brainwash them into his corps.
The Predator's motives are evil, and so yes villains could be members of the Star Sapphires, as the parasitic reservists rings would act on his motivations.
Prose; No:
Carol Ferris is undoubtedly Heroic, and inspires the whole corps to be like her, and so as they are perceived to be heroic, and Carol Ferris inspires love through acts of heroism, it is impossible to reconcile the intentions and moralities of both Carol Ferris and The Predator.
This makes a situation while, The Predator *is* evil, the corps as a whole is not. And since we are playing as corps-women we cannot be villainous since the inspiration for our power is heroic.
Prose; Both:
While I correctly stated above it is impossible to reconcile the intentions and moralities of both Carol Ferris and The Predator, the ring overrides the hosts morality by it's parasitic nature, furthermore, we have observed by the stories in DCUO, the members of the Star Sapphires can have 'the fog lifted' in their minds, and exert *some* of their original morality, when Hal and Sinestro speak to Carol at the end of the Love and War raids, she 'shakes off' the influence of the Predator after being beaten and confronted by her true love.
Q: Can Star Sapphire members be both male and female?
Prose; Yes:
There is an instance where John Stewart was a Star Sapphire member, so this suggests it is not impossible.
Prose; No:
With the given exception above, there has never been another male Star Sapphire, the Devs even have already decided to make all Star Sapphires members female throughout all of the instances/alerts/raids.
It seems this has already been decided, and this is very much canon with the comics.
Prose; Both:
Should we have this Corps join us in DCUO, we should have female only corps-women and could have a Legend Character of Star Sapphire John Stewart. This would keep us 'in canon' and sate some people's desires for a male Star Sapphire.
I hope you enjoyed my little 'article' on the morality of these two corps.
have a great and bizarre day!

*in regards to a Lantern Healer

*(The Predator is male)
From another post on my Blogger
As I laid out before, the ability to switch rings for lantern healers would be cool. The above is my placeholder for a Blue Lantern Healer which could also switch to Indigo Tribe being a Hero, but being male, could not be a Star Sapphire, with BetaAtom being a Hero, could have access to all three power ring corps. A Villain female char would have access to Indigo Tribe and Star Sapphire.. it is little known about the Star Sapphire that the 'Predator' is a villain and it is because Carol Ferris is a Hero we see them as heroes. Male Villains would only have access to Indigo Tribe as they are Neutral.
hmm i feel like doing a flowchart :D
Male ---
| Blue Lantern
| Indigo Tribe
--Hero--> |
|
|
Female --
Blue Lantern
Indigo Tribe
Star Sapphire
Male ---
| Indigo Tribe
--Villain-->|
|
Female --
Indigo Tribe
Star Sapphire
It's an agonizing wait until they (DB) finish the Lantern Trifecta, it's not 'confirmed' but as Mepps put it will be 'considered' along with a load of other new powers to be considered, but seeing how it has major support from both the Lantern fan base and even Lantern opponents (people who don't want new Lantern content but sympathize that there should definitely be a Lantern Healer) ..I think Lantern Healer will get bumped to if not top, near top of the queue.

Considering that the vast majority of Star Sapphires are aliens, they are not necessarily bound by the binary constructs of human genders.
There could be species that are Asexual. I doubt that Mogo has traditional intercourse with a female planet. The qualifier is the ability to feel great love, not to have a specific gender."

Hi Caleb & Jen
What you suggest is not how the game or comics deal with the canon of the work.
http://metropolisherald.blogspot.com/2016/09/lantern-healer-reworked.html
"It's within current canon inside the game due to vendors and (an) instance.
Blue Lantern for both hero genders, available from the vendor in Mogo (cr 97 'Shepherd of Adara')
Indigo Tribe available for both genders and both factions in WT/HoD (iirc around 110-120 cr 'Vesture of Proselyte')
Star Sapphire for Females of both factions as a reward in Love and War (iirc 97 'Heart of the Predator' )"
I don't believe in 'fluid genders' myself but I don't have a horse in that race, I'm solidly male. And remember these comics were written by my generation and the generation before mine.. I think its unlikely that was foremost in their minds either, but I don't know their minds and could be wrong.
